Venesections

Venesections are a therapeutic procedure offered at Eaton & Australind Medical Centre, designed to remove excess iron from the blood or to treat conditions like polycythemia vera, where the blood has a higher-than-normal volume of red blood cells. This treatment is essential for patients with hemochromatosis, an inherited condition leading to iron overload, which can cause serious health issues, including liver damage, heart problems, and diabetes, if not managed properly.

This treatment is essential for patients with hemochromatosis, an inherited condition leading to iron overload, which can cause serious health issues, including liver damage, heart problems, and diabetes, if not managed properly.

Our approach to venesections emphasizes patient safety, comfort, and informed consent. Before undergoing a venesection, patients at Eaton & Australind Medical Centre receive a comprehensive consultation to discuss the procedure’s benefits, potential risks, and any pre-procedure preparations. Our medical team meticulously plans each venesection session, tailoring the volume of blood to be removed according to individual patient needs and monitoring iron levels and overall health throughout the treatment process. By adopting a patient-centred approach, we ensure that each individual receives care that is not only medically effective but also supportive of their overall well-being.
